The Urban List Melbourne

During my internship in 2018 for The Urban List, I had one of the highest article count rates across lifestyle, food, travel and miscellaneous subjects.

I have attached some of my favourite articles from my time at TUL.

The Best of Elsternwick

Elsternwick runs in a leafy swathe between Kooyong Rd, Glen Eira Rd and the Nepean Highway. It’s full of important things like the Hopetoun Gardens, Ripponlea Estate (they throw the best teddy bears picnics) and most importantly, good food. If you want to find the best restaurants in Elsternwick, just head down to Glen Huntly Rd, near Elsternwick station—that’s where you get the good grub. Bring your wallet...and an appetite.

Here we go, guys. The best restaurants in Elsternwick.

Little Odessa

Nestled away at the rear of Brunswick St, is a brand new Fitzroy gem: Little Odessa. Traditional Eastern European eats meets thirst-quenching cocktails. The hardest bit (apart from finding the entrance) is choosing what to eat off the menu, but once you settle in…trust us, you won’t want to leave.

Little Odessa is all about family living and communal eating. Which means talking about food, A LOT. It might be your mates, the friendly staff or even the couple at the next table—you're gonna be chatting about this menu.

For starters, the range is excellent. From traditional to the experimental, this dimly-lit diner packs a punch. Sibling team, Stefan and Sofia, wanted to create something different to the usual Fitzroy rooftop wine bar, while still showing off their Eastern Euro roots.

We Ranked the Best So-Fresh Albums

So Fresh is that sweet nostalgia of childhood. It’s your first kiss at the Grade 6 dance, putting on sparkly grape scented lip-gloss and messaging your friends on MSN and chewing strawberry Hubba Bubba. We have more So Fresh CD’s in Australia than there are users on Tinder. True story.

If you weren’t in the loop, there's a So Fresh Party at the Gasometer Hotel this weekend. And just to make sure you’re totally prepared: we’re here to rank the Top Ten So Fresh albums, so you can brush up on your knowledge before the big day.

Melbourne’s Annual Chilli Cook-Off

It’s time to turn up the heat, Melbournians. Because your favourite city is re-booting the Hot Sauce and Chilli Festival for another year! The weekend-long event will be hosted by the folks at Welcome to Thornbury, and there's quite a spicy lineup if we do say so ourselves.

You can expect big players like Belles Hot Chicken, Mr Burger, Happy Camper Pizza and Dip’d Gourmet Mini Donuts supplying the fiery noms, while the bar is providing the drinks in the form of the “Hot Pocket” Shot—a concoction so spicy you have to sign a waiver form before consumption. There’ll also be sauces on offer to buy at WTT's exclusive chilli market, so you can keep the party going way past the weekend

Good Times Milk Bar

Heads up, Bentleigh. There's a new kid on the neighbourhood block.

Good Times Milk Bar isn’t serving up Gaytimes and lolly-bags…not exactly. With a killer menu, great coffee, splashes of colour on the walls and green leafy plants growing all over the place, this is a 'Milk Bar' for the new generation.

The whole concept of backstreet community cafés isn't new, but Good Times has certainly taken it to the next level. They wanted to focus on bringing Bentleigh together—it’s the type of place where the barista knows your coffee order, meet up with mates, or bring the pup (more on this below...).
